ACT LOCAL PRESENTS: RAISE THE ROOF

Benefit for the Northside Town Hall Community and Cultural Center

October 28, 2009

Music Hall of Williamsburg

THEY MIGHT BE GIANTS • NADA SURF (ACOUSTIC) • CHARLES BISSELL (WRENS)

Community activists, artists, and musicians will come together at the Music Hall of Williamsburg on October 28th to raise money for the Northside Town Hall Community and Cultural Center. Three of Brooklyn’s biggest acts—Nada Surf, They Might Be Giants, and Charles Bissell of the Wrens—will be performing. The night will also include booths from local organizations, art installations, and celebrity DJs to be announced later. Tickets are $25 and available now on the Music Hall website. Those who purchase a $75 VIP ticket will have access to a private viewing area, a catered buffet, and wine from local merchants.

“We are honored to have these local musicians perform as part of the community-wide movement to create a badly needed resource that will work to improve the neighborhood for all of us,” says Del Teague, a member of the Town Hall’s Board of Directors. “North Brooklyn is going through enormous changes and its citizens need advocacy and activism more than ever—as well as services in areas such as affordable housing and job development. We also want to recognize and foster the connections between our local artists and the political needs of the community with the exhibition and meeting space in the Town Hall.”

"I've lived in Williamsburg for 14 years," says Matthew Caws of Nada Surf "I've seen the changes happen and I know this community center is necessary for responsible growth."
